Older People’s Groups’ Bursary Award SchemeReading Declaration
The Equality and Human Rights Commission ( EHRC) is providing a small grant stream (£36,000) to build the capacity of Older Peoples Forums, Older People’s Action Groups and Voluntary and Community Sector Groups (VCSGs) in supporting the empowerment needs of older people . This work is supported by Government Office for the South East’s (GOSE’s) Later Life division and by  the South East Rural Community Councils (SERCC) which is the accountable body for the Regional Empowerment Partnership ( REP) and for this project.More details and the application form.

Uni Network's response to UK Border Agency Consultation on the Oversight of the Immigration Advice Sector and proposals to change the way immigration advice and services are regulated in the UK. Details.

Down in the Dumps: Minority Ethnic Child Poverty in South East England,  a major new policy briefing by Uni Network on child poverty among minority ethnic communities in South East England, states that Pakistanis and Bangladeshis are enduring higher levels of poverty, along with some refugees and asylum seekers. The report argues that housing is a significant issue in many parts of the region, with high levels of overcrowding and homelessness amongst minority ethnic individuals, compounded by decreased levels of social housing, and high rents. The Local Grants Forum has published Defending local grants: resources you can use to help in convincing councillors, commissioning officers and procurement professionals that grants should continue to be used to fund local organisations and groups. The JRF report, Empowering Migrant And Refugee Community Organisations, explores the support offered to community leaders in a range of Migrant and Refugee Community Organisations (MRCOs) and examines the scope of capacity building in various areas, including developing the skills of MRCO leaders to engage in, and shape the research agenda.

Underground Lives, a report by Pafras (Positive Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers) warns that hundreds of thousands of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) failed asylum seekers are living in extreme poverty in the UK, with no housing or financial support, and no right to work. Pafras argues that the Government is using destitution as a policy to force asylum seekers out of the country and that UK's destitute asylum seeker population is largely invisible.
